Esks sign USC product Will Harris

The Esks have announced the signing of  import safety/linebacker Will Harris to the practice squad today. Harris is a six-foot-one, 210-pound product of the University of Southern California and recently attended mini-camps with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent. Harris received a nod from his former head coach, Pete Carroll, this past spring as he was one of three former Trojans to be signed as an undrafted free agent by the Seahawks.

Harris spent five years at USC, although he was only a full-time starter in his senior year, serving as a backup strong safety and special teams player for most of his career at the Coliseum. He did start during his junior year as an injury replacement. As a starter in 2009, Harris recorded 69 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions, and one forced fumble.

Scouting reports from this past year indicate that Harris shows a good change of direction, smooth hips, and good footwork, making him an exellent prospect for the CFL as he has good ability to go from sideline-to-sideline. He ran the 3-cone drill at the USC pro day in a time of 6.88 seconds.

Despite growing up in Covina, California, Harris cheered for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers growing up and prefers Lebron James to Kobe Bryant.

To make room for Harris on the practice roster, the Eskimos released non-import defensive back James Green.
