Projected 46 Man Roster

The above video is just to get everyone excited about what is hopefully going to be another Grey Cup in the Eskimos trophy case. Below is a look at the potential roster that could do it.

Projecting a roster just over three weeks away from training camp is tricky, has taken over a week to assemble, and still might be all wrong. Returning players are easier to predict due to past performances; however new players, either NFL cast-offs or CFL draft picks, present a whole different set of issues as film on them is either rare or non-existent, and scouting reports are often little more than one or two sentences. After all the roster moves that have been  made, it looks like the training camp list is pretty close to being set, so here is the Eskimos Nation projected 46 man roster. There are a few reaches and optimistic picks, but it’s a fun exercise to contemplate who might be lining up for the Green & Gold on the new field turf this season.

According to the CFL website, the following are the basic rules governing rosters in the CFL.

  • Each team may have a maximum of 42 players, including 3 players who shall be identified as quarterbacks and 39 other players, of whom not more than 19 may be imports.
  • Teams must have a minimum of 41 players, including two players who shall be identified as quarterbacks and 39 other players, of whom not more than 19 may be imports.
  • Each team must establish a reserve roster of 4 players. These 4 players may be imports or non-imports.
Basically, the Eskimos will have a 46 man roster for the duration of the season. Let’s take a look at what it might look like position by position. Some of the positions are pretty much locks while others are up for some serious debate.

I’m sure that there are plenty of changes that could be made to the above list. This is just an early projection of what I think could happen. Please note that although I respected the import ratio, I did not respect the salary cap.  Salaries are not disclosed in the CFL, so I may be over or I may be under. Any and all comments are welcome.
